Graphic Design - Simplicity of Form
Graphic Design is a mission towards simplicity of form. It's primary goal being the use of symbol's to communicate a message. Today, the trend in the industry is all about dimensionality. Can a person reach out and touch your brand? Can they feel the smooth glossy crystal of your graphics? The popularity of touchscreen technology in mobile phones, mp3 players and monitors is an advent of this trend. Take a look at some of the world's largest brands like: Apple, Ford, Pepsi or Maytag Appliances, they have all forgone their simple logo graphics for the illusion of depth, transparency and radiance. Designers are attempting to follow this trend but continuously fall victim to one crucial oversight. These brands were originally conceived with simplicity of form in mind, and that is what makes them so powerful, not the gloss dripping off their surface, or the shadow cast by their shape. It is the purity of their design. Let's never forget that you can put lipstick on a pig, but underneath it's still bacon.
